The Startup course was delivered to students at the Machine Building College as a part of the Jean Monnet project

In the 2025 autumn semester, Dr Bohdan Kovalov of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration delivered a series of lectures for students and faculty members of the Machine Building College of SSU.

The sessions were delivered as part of the course “Startup the first steps in business: EU and Ukrainian Experience”, which introduces participants to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and the practical aspects of starting and developing a business through the comparative experience of the European Union and Ukraine.

During the sessions, Dr Bohdan Kovalov introduced participants to the foundations of entrepreneurship and the development of entrepreneurial activity in the EU, opportunities available to young entrepreneurs through European institutions, and the main stages involved in transforming an entrepreneurial idea into a business venture. Particular attention was given to organisational forms of business in the EU and Ukraine, the principles and stages of startup development, and business registration procedures.

Participants also explored practical aspects of entrepreneurship, including taxation, franchising, business ethics, assessment of the potential of a business idea and the structure of a business plan, as well as opportunities to use crowdfunding and fundraising to mobilise resources for entrepreneurial projects.

The practical component of the sessions was designed to help students understand the pathway from an initial business idea to the development of their own entrepreneurial project while drawing on relevant EU experience and practices.

We would like to express our gratitude to Lidia Skorokhodova, Tetiana Ochkova and Elina Valiukh for providing the opportunity to organise the event and for coordinating student participation.

The training course was prepared within the framework of the European Commission project – the Jean Monnet Module “Youth & Business: EU Practices for Cooperation” (101126538-YouthBEU-ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH).
