Module on sustainable economy

Jean Monnet module “Using best EU practices for sustainable economy forming in Ukraine” (UBEUP) 553185-EPP-1-2014-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE (2014–2017)

In Sumy State University since September 2014 Jean Monnet module “Using best EU practices for sustainable economy forming in Ukraine” (UBEUP) 553185-EPP-1-2014-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE is headed by Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk. The responsible teachers are Prof. Dr. L. Melnyk, Assoc. Prof., PhD O. Kubatko, Assoc. Prof. PhD I. B. Dehtyarova.

The following activities were held within the framework of the project:

– three study guides printed: “EU Practices for Sustainable Economy Implementation in Ukraine” by Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk; “European experience of entrepreneurship and start-ups in Ukraine” by Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Oleksandr Kubatko;    “EU practices and sustainable development in Ukraine” by Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk, Assoc. Prof., I.B.Dehtyarova;

– two section on the development of “green” energy in Ukraine and EU prepared to be included in the textbook “Energy Economics”(labeled by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine);

– a set of presentation materials to provide appropriate training cycles developed;

– a popular science book “Philosophical Tales of Development” (2015, Sumy) was published the complex of scientific papers to substantiate the content of the module. Implementation of the project resulted in the research related to the analysis of development sustainable economy, including “green” energy as its main base; the results of scientific papers have been published in the monograph “The theory of systems” (2016, “Palmarium”, Saarbrücken, Germany);

– 12 journal papers and monographs were published; papers were presented at 8 scientific conferences.

As a result of research and analysis of the EU experience the necessary preconditions for the formation of sustainable economy have been formulated. Among them, it is necessary to highlight: 1) a significant diversification of sources, forms, methods and technologies for energy production (solar, wind, biogas sources, etc.); 2) formation of complex integration schemes of their relationship, because each of them has a narrow operating conditions and low power; 3) deconcentration in space within a single EnerNet system; 4) the formation of transnational solidarity-based economy.

In the 2014-2016 academic years, the project was implemented through a series of lectures and seminars:

  • Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk, Assoc. Prof., Dr. O. Kubatko, Assoc. Prof. I.B.Dehtyarova in November and December held a series of lectures for students of economic and engineering specialties in Sumy State University. The mentioned teachers held a series of round tables and debates.
  • Prof. L. Melnyk and Assoc. Prof., Dr. I. Dehtyarova delivered lectures in Odessa State Ecological University (February-March 2015, March 2016). Together with Assoc. Prof., Dr. O. Kubatko these teachers in the same periods also held round tables and debates.
  • Same teachers delivered lectures at Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics in 2015-2016. Upon completion of a serious of lectures a round-table debates were held for all students.

Within the framework of the Jean Monnet Project Prof., Dr. L. Melnyk delivered additional lectures: 1) for students and teachers in Odessa National Polytechnic University (March, 2015; March 2016); 2) for students and teachers in Odessa National Economic University (March, 2015; September 2016); 3) for Sumy State University scientific community (December 2014; May 2015; May-June 2016); 4) for scientific and educational community of Sumy Region, Sumy Regional Library (March, 2015; March 2016); 5) for Ukrainian and foreign students in the International Student Conference “Economics for Ecology” (May 2015; May 2016); 6) for students and teachers in Cherkassy Banking Institute (May, 2015); 7) for students and teachers in Uzhgorod National University (May, 2015); 8) for students of Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University (March 2016); 9) for the participants of the inter-university scientific and methodical seminar “Modern problems of teaching economic disciplines methods ” (June, 2015); 10) The series of lectures were delivered for schools teachers of Sumy region (May 2015, May and June 2016); 11) the course of on-line lectures for teachers and students of Ukraine was delivered (May 2016); 12) the course of on-line lectures in English for students of African countries was delivered (June 2016); 13) lectures for teachers of European countries during the cruise on a sailing ship Frederic Chopin was delivered (July 2016); 14) lecture for students and teachers of the Kaunas University of Technology was delivered (November 2016).

In addition, participants of the scientific-methodical commission on ecology, environmental protection and balanced nature use of Ministry of Education and Science were informed about the main objectives and tasks of the project (May 2015). In a special program devoted to the Day of the Environment, Sumy regional radio informed  Sumy region citizens  about the aims and objectives of the project (June 2015).

The third year of project implementation is started according to which it is scheduled meetings and lectures for teachers, journalists, representatives of local authorities and the general public. In particular, was held a press conference for journalists of Ukrainian media (December 2016). A meeting with Lithuanian colleagues on EU experience “green” economy implementation (November, 2016). Participation at consultative session of the National Erasmus + Office (November 2016). Participation  at annual Jean Monnet conference in Brussels.   Lecturers for journalists and NGOs in Odesa. (March 2017).

Lectures for SME representatives in Sumy (April,  2017).

Lectures and workshops for teachers, researchers and representatives of non-governmental organizations at Sumy National Agrarian University (May, 2017).

Lectures for master students, PhD students and teachers of the Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics (June, 2017).

It is organized  scientific work of students on the development of “green” energy,  several meeting are held for scientific and educational community of Sumy region.
