Startup the first steps in business: EU and Ukrainian Experience for bachelor students

Starting, January 2024, the selective discipline for Bachalor students “Startup: first steps in entrepreneurship EU and Ukrainian Experience» began at Sumy State University. The lecturer of the discipline is Oleksandr Kubatko, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration. Within the framework of the discipline, students got acquainted with the peculiarities of the creation and promotion of startups in the domestic and foreign markets. Special attention was paid to the institutional environment and stimulation of start-ups in the EU and the USA. Students familiarized themselves with the Canvas business model for describing and adjusting the activities of startups. The specific discussion questions are related to

  • Implementation of an entrepreneurial idea in the EU
  • Support of EU authorities and institutions to the young entrepreneur.
  • Restrictions on doing business in EU and Ukraine.
  • The procedure for licensing business activities in the EU and Ukraine) Organizational forms of business in EU and Ukraine
  • The economic essence of small business in EU and Ukraine. Features of small business development in EU and Ukraine.
  • The essence of Start-Up and Business registration. Goals and objectives of the project. Startup principles.
  • Stages of development of startup projects. Regulatory procedures. Advantages of doing business in different forms in the EU and Ukraine.

The course was based on the results of the educational and scientific project of EU Jean Monnet Module which is currently being carried out at the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration: Jean Monnet Module “Youth & Business: EU Practices for cooperation” (101126538 – YouthBEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH  headed B. Kovalov.
