A new textbook “Modern trends of economic development” edited by Doctor of Economics, Prof. L.G. Melnyk (University Book Publishing House, 2021, 432 p.). An international team of authors worked on the textbook, including scientists from Belgium, Belarus, Ghana, Canada, Latvia, Spain, Ukraine. The functions of the leader were taken scientists of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration (EP and BA) of SumDU.
The textbook has become modern not only in name and content, but also in form. It is felt that the authors of this information product treated with love both its readers and the educational process as a whole. As a result, the book is nice to hold in your hands, interesting to read, useful to learn what you read.
Not often in university textbooks you can find pictures, when each section is illustrated with a cheerful drawing in the style of comics. The essays were illustrated by Maksym Kyrylenko, a fourth-year student majoring in Entrepreneurship, Trade and Exchange Activities, and Mykhailo Volov, a former graduate of SumDU.
It should be noted that the scientific content of the textbook was born during the implementation of two international projects of Jean Monnet (department level), funded by the European Commission:
- “Legislative, economic and social transition of the EU to a sustainable society within Industry 4.0 and 5.0” (619997-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR) (2020-2023), headed by L. Melnyk
- EU Economic Policy and Civil Society (619878-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR) (2020–2023), headed by O. Kubatko.
The scientific level of the textbook is evidenced, in particular, by the number of literary sources (over 400) that were used in its preparation.
The content of the textbook was tested in the real educational process of SumDU, where the discipline “Modern trends of economic development” were introduced for graduate students. Today we have the opportunity to get acquainted with the impressions of students from the content of the course, which formed the basis of this textbook.

In the 2020/2021 academic year, a new subject “Modern Trends in Economic Development” is taught to graduate students. The study of which occurred in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, so teaching takes place remotely. But thanks to the professionalism of the teaching staff, namely Melnyk LG and Matsenko OM who are always ready to help, to explain the material is not felt. The learning process gives a whole ocean of positive emotions and unforgettable impressions. All lecture, methodological and practical materials are available in full. Teaching online lectures is meaningful, complete, interesting and closely intertwined with practical classes, which makes it possible to fundamentally consolidate the material even for beginners.
Teachers’ attitude to us is felt not only as students, but also as individuals, future scientists.
Thanks! I am very glad that I got into this whirlpool of knowledge!

The materials taught by Leonid Hryhorovych, for me personally, are valuable not only for their scientific novelty, but also for his skillful combination of novelty and philosophy of life. This combination in teaching ensures the constant relevance of the material developed and presented by him. In particular, now I am again a listener of Leonid Grigorovich. Now-course lectures “Modern trends in economic development.”
In confirmation of the above, I must state that I am so impressed by the content of what I heard and saw that in addition to learning about the trends myself, I have interesting conversations with my growing son. And looking at the lively course of his thoughts, I am once again convinced that everything stated is correct, relevant and is a valuable achievement for the future.
