Starting in September 2024, the course “Startup the first steps in business: EU and Ukrainian Experience” was delivered in Ukrainian to domestic students at Sumy State University. The course was organised for three groups with a total of 49 students.
The course provides students with practical and theoretical knowledge of entrepreneurship and startup development through the comparative experience of the European Union and Ukraine. The programme covers the fundamentals and history of entrepreneurship in the EU; implementation of entrepreneurial ideas and support available to young entrepreneurs; organisational forms of business in the EU and Ukraine; startup development and business registration; taxation; franchising; EU business ethics; business planning; and crowdfunding and fundraising. Particular attention is paid to practical aspects of starting and developing a business and to EU experience that can be applied in the Ukrainian context.
Overall, the course included 32 hours of lectures and 36 hours of seminars, totalling 68 teaching hours across the three student groups.
The course is based on the results of the educational and research project currently implemented at the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration – the Jean Monnet Module “Youth & Business: EU Practices for Cooperation” (101126538 – YouthBEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH) led by Dr Bohdan Kovalov.
