On April 16, 2024, Sumy State University (SumDU) and Riga Technical University (RTU) held a virtual lecture titled “Finding Sustainable Business Solutions: Procedures, Techniques, and Life Cycle Assessment Standards” as part of their joint virtual academic mobility program “Transitioning to a Circular Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Business.”
The lecture was delivered by Inna Koblianska, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Business Administration at SumDU. RTU Professor Tatjana Tambovceva facilitated the event. Students and faculty from both universities, participating in the virtual mobility program, attended the lecture.
During the lecture, the speaker delved into the concept of life cycle assessment (LCA), its principles, procedures, stages, advantages, and limitations. She also introduced the audience to various LCA types, software and databases, international standards, and LCA procedures.
A significant part of the lecture was dedicated to analyzing LCA case studies, including examples of environmental and social assessments and cost accounting. The speaker focused on interpreting LCA results and their practical application to improve the environmental and social performance of products, services, and systems in various industries.
Concluding the lecture, Inna Koblianska emphasized that LCA is a crucial tool for developing sustainable business solutions. She encouraged students to use this tool in their future professional activities actively.
