Guest Lectures by a Jean Monnet Professor for Sumy State University Students

As part of the 2024 spring semester delivery of the course “Startup the first steps in business: EU and Ukrainian Experience”, a series of guest lectures was delivered online by Professor Jean-Marc Trouille, University of Bradford, UK, and Co-Investigator of the Jean Monnet Module “Youth & Business: EU Practices for Cooperation”.

The lectures were delivered in English to a mixed cohort of approximately 20 Bachelor’s and Master’s students at Sumy State University with sufficient English-language proficiency to participate in the sessions. In total, Professor Trouille delivered 10 hours of online lectures.

The guest lectures complemented the core content of the startup course by placing entrepreneurship and startup development within the wider European business and institutional environment. Particular attention was given to differences between European business systems and business cultures, the implications of different models of capitalism for entrepreneurs and SMEs, and the ways in which EU industrial and trade policies influence business opportunities. The sessions also addressed government–industry relations, the role of public institutions in shaping the business environment, and the intercultural dimensions of cooperation between firms operating across European markets.

The lectures were delivered within the framework of the European Commission project – the Jean Monnet Module “Youth & Business: EU Practices for Cooperation” (101126538 – YouthBEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH), led by Dr Bohdan Kovalov.
