Traditional Jean Monnet lectures on EU trade in Poltava

During the beginning of October 2018 Oleksandr Kubatko and Bohdan Kovalov have lectured and organised training on “Basics of European economy and EU trade policy” at Poltava National University named after Yuri Kondratyuk (PolNTU). The lectures were provided within framework of the Jean Monnet module “EU trade opportunities and challenges for Ukraine” (573581-EPP-1-2016-1-UAEPPJMO-MODULE).

The aim of the course was to provide students with basic information on European economy and EU trade policy. The students got familiar with development of European structures, institutions and their impact on economic activity. The key learning outcomes include understanding the main concept of EU integration; knowledge on the EU markets, knowledge about the evolution of EU economy and EU trade policy.

The above-mentioned course have covered the following topics:

  1. Conceptualizing and historical development of EU integration (Jean Monnet ideas on EU integration, economic conditions of EU integration).
  2. Economic integration steps (free trade, free trade area, customs union, common market, basic elements of the monetary integration).
  3. The role EU economy in the modern world (structure of the EU economy, competition policy, regional and cohesion policy, Innovation and competitiveness policy).
  4. EU trade policy (EU trade legislation, instruments of EU trade policy, restrictions of EU trade policy).

At the end of lectures, Dr. Bohdan Kovalov have organized training on promoting EU trade with Ukraine. The students were split into 12 groups and were asked to choose several domestic products, which would be competitive on EU market. Within the successful end of training students were given appropriate certificates.
