In October-December 2024, Dr. Sc., Prof. Iryna Sotnyk, Professor of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration (EEBA) of Sumy State University, gave a series of online lectures on the topic “Social solidarity economy:: ethical and solidarity use of resources for sustainable development” for postgraduate students of economic specialties of Sumy State University within the student’s free choice discipline “Social and Solidarity Economy”. The listeners got acquainted with the EU experience in creating and managing the mechanisms of ethical and solidarity use of resources in the social solidarity economy, attracting such resources to overcome the challenges of sustainable development, formalizing the shadow economy, creating green jobs, supporting social entrepreneurship, and financing social and solidarity economy organizations. The course also included such topics as social solidarity economy in the municipality, sectoral and fair trade practices for the development of social solidarity economy.
Based on the results of the lectures and practical classes, the students developed and presented initiative local-scale social projects, which can be implemented at the expense of the participatory budget of the city of Sumy or other alternative sources. The postgraduate students acquired practical skills in drawing up budgets for such projects, diagnosed the current social problems of the Sumy community and proposed original solutions to such problems.
The results of the Jean Monnet Module project, which is currently being implemented at the EEBA department, namely: “Social solidarity economy: implementation of EU experience for sustainable development” (SSExpEU – 101047518 – GAP-101047518) (2022-2025), were used in the lectures.
