\n<\/a><\/a>June 28 the whole country celebrated the Constitution Day. Celebrations also took place in Sumy, near the monument to The Great Kobzar.<\/p>\n

\nFew recall another event, which anniversary took place on the Constitution Day. Ten years ago a unique event started at this place: Sumy students, faculty and staff of universities and just concerned citizens began to protest against the merger of the three universities (Sumy State University, Sumy State Pedagogical University, Sumy National Agrarian University). In fact, this association aimed at “donor organs dismantling” – the first two universities to join the Agricultural University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIt was in 2004 in the Constitution Day in Shevchenko Park when student tents appeared. The best representatives of the city’s universities lived here fighting for their rights for more than a month. In Sumy August 1 protesters started their walk to Kiev. The goal was to convey to President L.D. Kuchma’s protesters\u2019 request for annulment of the decree aimed at uniting Sumy universities. Ten days in the heat, in the rain and wind were students, teachers, ordinary citizens walked to their goal. And a miracle happened! The action ended with an unprecedented success! Hardly the first time in the history of her country \u2013 The President canceled his decree. Universities got their freedom back. It happened when the delegation was already under Piryatin passing about 200 km.<\/p>\n
