role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2312\"><p><strong>\u201cLeave something for future generations!\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p>The International Conference of Students and Young Scientists\u00a0<strong>\u201cEconomics for Ecology\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was first held in <strong>1992.<\/strong><\/p><p>Let\u2019s turn the pages of history and remember what a time it was. After the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine\u2014like most of the former Soviet republics\u2014was experiencing a critical stage in its formation and development as an independent state. This was manifested in high inflation, widespread poverty, and constant delays in wages and scholarships. It felt as if we were standing on the threshold of history. The situation required the consolidation of efforts and decisive measures by all social institutions.<\/p><p>Higher education institutions played an important role in finding solutions to these challenges. One of the most prominent among them is\u00a0<strong>Sumy State University (SumDU)<\/strong>\u2014a classical university with the 4th (highest) level of accreditation.<\/p><p>Sumy State University\u2019s contribution to addressing the increasingly relevant relationship between economics and ecology was the establishment of the\u00a0<strong>\u201cEconomics for Ecology\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0conference. The founder of the conference is\u00a0<strong>Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Leonid Melnyk.<\/strong><\/p><p>In its early years, individual foreign experts\u2014those with whom contacts had already been established\u2014were invited to participate. In some years, representatives of the\u00a0<strong>UN Environment Programme<\/strong>\u00a0and international volunteers also took part. Initially, the majority of reports, scientific developments, and project presentations came from experienced scientists and professionals from Belgium, Ukraine, and the Peace Corps. Over time, the number of participants among students and young researchers increased.<\/p><p>Starting in <strong>1998<\/strong>, a student-led initiative changed the format of the conference. The\u00a0<strong>theoretical part<\/strong>\u00a0(discussions of key topics and round tables) was held at the university, while the\u00a0<strong>practical part<\/strong>\u00a0(intellectual team games and cultural activities) took place at recreation centers, often featuring events that reflected the national traditions of the participants.<\/p><p>Throughout its existence, the conference has welcomed participants from various regions of Ukraine and numerous countries around the world, including Lithuania, Turkey, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Serbia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Poland, Estonia, Ghana, Hungary, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Georgia, Burundi, Bangladesh, Belarus, Kenya, Germany, Uganda, the USA, Canada, Romania, Moldova, and many others.<\/p><p>The\u00a0<strong>\u201cEconomics for Ecology\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0conference became a launching pad for many promising young professionals who went on to defend their research based on the materials they presented at the event. One such example is former conference chair\u00a0<strong>Oleksandr Romanko<\/strong>, who now works in Canada. Conference alumni\u2014postgraduate students and educators\u2014have raised a new generation of talented successors, to whom we proudly pass the baton in the fight for a better future. After all, the motto of our conference remains:\u00a0<strong>\u201cLeave something for future generations!\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p>Today, it is especially important for us\u2014the community that grew up and developed as researchers through the sessions and events of \u201cEconomics for Ecology\u201d\u2014to preserve and strengthen our scientific traditions and networks.<\/p><p>Recognizing the need to move forward, in <strong>2025<\/strong> we are updating the visual identity of\u00a0<strong>\u201cEconomics for Ecology\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0to reflect the context of digital transformation, while
